Well I was going to link to a petition to ask singaporeans to sign to call for the resgination of the CEO, but I think most singaporeans are happier that not only the CEO stepped down, but the whole Board also resigned.

I think there wasn't any other way to go. The NKF couldn't have explained why it has such huge reserves, paid its CEO such obscene (for a Non-Profit Organisation) amounts of money and the perks it gave to upper management. Especially when it used to portray itself as a relatively tight-budget charity, with only 3 years reserves (instead of the actual 30). Such decit from a well-known (and formerly well-respected) charity is very disturbing. Plus, the patron was the wife of our Senior Minister. I wonder if she was in the know about all the numbers or just a figurehead for the organisation?

I just want to say that the CEO was a FUCKER. And I'd bet he was Forced to resign due to public pressure. The NKF deserves its fate, if you want alternatives to help the less fortunate, the Kidney Dialysis Foundation or Red Cross are more deserving of your good-intentions (and monies).

Next, a little disclaimer. I'm not the most morally upright person in the world, nor this postal district, hell, I might not even be the most morally upright person in this block, but any evil I partake in is a "small" evil, if you will. But given all of that, this is so fucked up. If you're too lazy to actually click and go take a lot, a brief (possibly biased) summary:

1. Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) ran a story on the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) last year, alleging that the NKF had installed gold-plated bathroom fixtures in the CEO's private office bathroom.

2. NKF sued SPH and the reporter for defamation.

3. In court, NKF was forced to reveal the salary of its CEO (25K per month, a cool 600 grand a year, inclusive of a 12 month bonus) and the various perks the upper executives have (like travelling via first class, hiring expats from over 17 different countries).

4. Keeping in mind that the NKF bills itself as (or rather, is registered as) a not-for-profit charitable organization, the public was rather enraged at the CEO extravagence.

Sad Case I Am

It's the 4th of July weekend and I'm stuck at home and will be in the lab on the actual holiday tomorrow. Talk about a lack of a social circle huh. I think in this case, I (most unfortunately) win a certain nerdy accountant who likes reading manuals before bed. (Okie, maybe a little embellishment over there. But hey, artistic licence, so bite me.)

Justice League Unlimited is AWESOME. ANY animated DC cartoon is AWESOME. They are the very essence of awesomeness. JLU, Teen Titans, The Batman, Batman:The Animated Series, Superman (I didn't watch so much of this), don't think I missed anything else. These are AWESOMENESSISTICISM!! Gosh, I can't stop expounding the greatness of these cartoons. 6 thumbs up.

Seth Mcfarlene likes retro songs. And thanks to him, I am getting in touch with more and more old hits.

Lastly, simple games are still the best. Minesweeper is an old love I rediscovered thanks to my bro. New Best Time is only 139 seconds... I still have aways to go before I regain my former glory of sub-90 expert clearings.

I have SUPERPOWERS

You know, in every superhero story, there is always a question of origin. How did he/she get their awesome(ness) powers? I think I got mine by a cosmic incident that altered my being. From that mess, I emerged with the power to make people unhappy.

But with great power comes great responsibility and I'm not sure that unleashing such power is a wise decision. After all, the incident has only just passed and I might be unstable due to it's occurance and who really knows how it has changed me?

But I swear that I can feel the shock gradually wear off and replaced by anger. Will it reach a critical point? I can't tell. I hope not. I'd rather not turn a lose situation into a lose-lose, but sometimes, you go with what life gives you. And if life bites you with a radioactive spider, you go out and catch some flies...

Some other, less introspective thoughts,

1. THINK before answering any question posed to you by a professor, especially one who is in-charge of your work.

2. Apparently, the phrase "young and innocent" if and when applied to a young man, is some code for "Eat more. We are counting on you to finish the food."

3. Brand new equipment is SOOOO much nicer to play with than old equipment. At the very least, you don't need to troubleshoot it at all.

4. And we will fade into the night with a "ChEEEEE BAIIIIIIIII".

Recently, it's been more naturaly to use Chinese to express what I feel, but what the hell, I try not to neglect my non-Chinese speaking readers.

Well, it seems like the big truth is out. Big in the metaphorical sense I guess, cos it's not really that earth-shattering and quite obvious I hazard, to the people who have all the facts. How am I supposed to feel? Resentful? Angry? Jealous? Relieved? Congratulatory? I don't really know.

All I know is that it will be an interesting Spring next year. And by next year I mean 2006. And if anyone wants to know more, please PM me. But to those who are 1. Not FUBARED, 2. Not CHampions of Excellence, it's really 1. None of your business, 2. What 1. said.

Another thing I know is that life is full of Fe-y. Good old Fe. (Cookie to anyone who can tell me this. Shouldn't take too long and I mean you, ".".)

The weather is getting a lil' bit cooler now, with all the rain and what not. Thank godness. Camping out (or at least, staying longer) at the lab was really looking quite attractive. Finding Air-Conditioning

HAHA!! I realised that there is A/C in the apartment!! Sweet merciful relief!! I just have to sleep in the living room from now onwards.

I write this with the understanding that I might spontaneously combust in this horrid weather any second now. It is important to preserve for posterity so here are my thoughts for any of my progeny. (Where will they come from if I burn up? I have no idea, but I always wanted to say that word. Progeny. Makes me sound cheem and virile.)

1. Getting a summer apartment without A/C is like getting sentenced to be baked/roasted alive.

Wow. I finally managed to get titles on my posts. Damn I'm a moron.

Anyways, just some random thoughts for this post.

1. It has not been a good start of the week for me. First my knee gets a little swollen cos of basketball and then I poke myself while trying to fix some equipment. Then I forgot to submit my bi-weekly reports in (which I have to do later). Lastly, there's a bloody bug in my room that refuses to stay put and let me smack it. So annoying.

2. I'm amazed at the very "matter of fact" way females deal with their own body. I was at the supermarket yesterday and saw a girl trying to decide what brand to use to help with the er, leakage(?). And she was just like choosing stuff and comparing them like the way I would compare apples. Guess the wild wild world of feminine needs will remain just that for me.

3. Fireflies!! Fireflies are out. Soooo pretty. Moving lights. Flying green lights against the blackness of the night sky is quite an enchanting vision (to me anyway, and this is MY blog. So there.).

4. Bad Japanese: 時々昔いの夏の事思い出してる時懐かしいな。。。でも終ったこともう終った。なにもう変わられなかった。 Corrected Japanese: たまに去年の夏休みの事を考えると悲しくなる。でももう過ぎた事は変えられないのでしょうがないと思う。Too bad. Life goes on...

I'm sure most of the people in the States have some knowledge of MGM Vs Grokster basically a challenge between the recording industry and the technology industry. I'm quite biased against the RIAA cos I think the music executives are a bunch of heavy-handed, arrogant, greedy people. Yes, this probably is a very very sweeping statement and they have a case, but who wants to root for the favourites? Everybody would rather cheer on the underdog that fights the good fight than the incumbent that takes everything for granted.

And now it seems that there is another measure that the recording industry is trying to take to clamp down on the masses.

It's really quite disgusting actually I think. How they expect to control the masses listening/purchasing habits just to fund their tunnel-visioned industry. I agree that people (myself included) download songs from the internet without paying for them. And morally, that's wrong. However how can they expect to emerge from this with a shining image by doing all these actions? First they sue people, regardless of income and age (like the teenages who Kazaa can pay a grand for every song they downloaded) then now they try to impose themselves on after-sales activities? The people who download may be in the wrong, but from their actions they don't come across as angels. Not by a far shot. It's more of a "If we can't get rich from the (mostly) shitty stuff we produce, we'll just sue the cash out of everyone poor bastard that has every downloaded something from us, even if they are just kids who haven't realised that they are just downloading routinely, thoughtlessly manufactured tunes."

Well, don't need to take it from me. Who am I but some stupid dude with too much time on my hands. Why not take a listen to Mark Cuban, co-owner of HDnet and owner of the Dallas Mavericks?

Ware on this one, bro. Whilst I'm certainly on the same page as you with regards to this argument, a word of caution about aligning oneself too fully to the "China cause" - just cause you're Chinese and possibly feel some empathy with the Chinese folk, doesn't necessarily mean that the feeling is mutual. Your standing, amongst the Chinese, is probably in this order: PRC > Hongkonger > Ang Moh > Taiwanese > ... > you. Yeah, that's about how much they care about you.

That aside however, I do believe that the American government or media does have a bone to pick with China. China is the proverbial scapegoat for all of their problems - budget deficits, unemployment, defence spending... It's just such hubris to always look to external sources for the causes of internal decay. No retrospection. No self-examination. As the Chinese say, "反省". I guess it's easy for the government to redirect attention and blame towards China all the time, I just can't believe that the thinking American public would swallow it hook, line and sinker.

The fact of the matter is, it isn't about human rights. It isn't about corruption, or the rights of the Taiwanese, or freedom of speech. It's about the US being scared. Scared that it's position as the only dipshit-who-can-kick-everyone's-asses economically or militarily might one day be undermined by another nation, another people. China will never out-tech America militarily.

Come on, even though China does spend signifant amounts on its defence budget, America's spending far outweighs China's. So unless future US presidents insist on obsessing over Star Wars-ish missile defence shields and other inordinately expensive projects with meagre returns, China will never be on equal footing with America militarily. And besides, who is the US to question China's right to build up a respectable defence force? After all, the US wasn't the nation that was invaded, defeated and forced to unfair treaty terms in the Opium Wars. My knowledge of US history is sketchy at best (so I would gladly bow to superior knowledge in this area), but the only notable war I can recall being fought on US soil would be the Civil War. What gives them the right to critise another nation's defence spending? "Since no nation threatens China, one wonders: Why this growing investment?", I quote the ever quotable Donald Rumsfield. Oh really? And which nation threatens the US? Whatever antagonism the US has garnered from the rest of the world is fully deserved. You would have thought they would have learnt their lesson about sticking their noses in other people's businesses by now.

Economically, sure, there may be a real threat there (I gather this from reading newspapers articles and not from self-professed knowledge, given that I know da shits about Econs 101). But once again, America has no one to blame but itself. The US has grown overly comfortable in its role as sole economic superpower, causing it to overspend dramatically. Like seriously, how can the world's richest nation also have the largest debt? And a current accounts deficit AND a budget deficit? Like... wow. The US should be thankful,in fact, that China keeps gobbling up its Treasury Bonds, since its economy would suffer a bad shock should China suddenly decide stocking up on US Treasury Bonds isn't such a great idea. And the thing about China stealing jobs? That's just plain bullshit. It's blatant protectionism and politics. Period. Every damn report has indicated that shifting low cost production to China is beneficial to the US economy in general. But hey, I guess some folk hear and don't listen.

Ok, enough about economics. One more point to quibble before I sign off. "China does have a lousy human rights track record, is still quite corrupt and is basically an aristocracy..." Yeah? How about Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib? At least China isn't hypocritical and calls a spade a spade. What about the political protesters who were chased off the streets when George Bush came to town to campaign (I read this in an article somewhere, but if you challenge me on it, I'll just concede seeing as I can't remember where)? Like hello, 1st amendment, anyone? Corruption? Don't tell me it doesn't occur in the States. Private campaign donations? Enron & WorldCom? I can't remember if Xerox was mired in scandal as well... And the US, being a bipartisan nation, will not necessarily do better than an aristocracy - after all, both parties have their support groups so mired in their own stances that it is nigh impossible for either party to change their party rhetoric and hope to get elected. So, for better or for worse, they'll be plodding, more or less, along the same old paths.

And last, you didn't mention this point, but I simply have to, since it bugs the hell out of me that the States has such obvious double standards. 'The world has to abide by the decisions of the UN. Well, except myself of course, since I KNOW for a fact that that bastard Saddam is hiding WOMD in his half-assed desert, and hence I can ignore the UN and fight a unilateral, PREEMPTIVE war. Ya see, it's not enough I fight other peoples' wars, now I gotta start 'em too!' And of course 'We demand that China abides by its new responisbilities as a respectable member of the WTO. Open up your damn markets, and unpeg your currency, dammit! Of course, even though the WTO has official abolished all import quotas and restrictions as of January 2005, I don't give a booyah! And Europe is forced to follow my lead in reimposing import quotas as a result. Oh yeah, I'm the fairest nation around.' And don't even get me started on the Bryd Amendment. So please... who is the US to pass judgement on anyone?

Haha, reading through all this, I realised I kinda went off tangent (perhaps even way off) with regards to the interesting article posted (which is simply about US public opinion on China, nothing to do with US fiscal policies and stuff), but what the hell, I typed it all out, no way I'm gonna delete it and just leave. So, for better or worse, here are the comments.

Couple of things to note:

1. I'm not too sure about the pecking order you've just written. Probably the Americans are No.1 (with regards to PRCs)and(most likely) Taiwanese No.2 but after that, it's really a push I think. In terms of significance do you think they really care more about HK than Singapore? Even if they do, I'm sure it's something to do with SARS.

2. I agree about the logic about China's defence spending. I forgot the website but I think that the defence budget of the States pwns the next 15-25 most weapon-rich countries. So it is indeed hypocritical of them.

3. I belive that the first word is actually a typo. (S)He probably meant "we are". In fact, there are a few more errors but I'm sure (s)he was not too interested in being very thorough in a 600+ word comment.

In the end, however, whatever flaws the States has, it doesn't mean that we can ignore China's totalitarian regime. And even though China might (and probably will) never see us as a strategic ally, I guess it's just the Chinese bit (okie, whole) in me that wants to see some AZN pride lay the smack down on Dubya. Although this scene is HIGHLY unlikely to occur, considering that China only has 3 more years to make this wish a reality. Maybe it can do so with little Jebbie instead.

Still, I think that the States is still a very alluring place. Even though I might seem to be bashing it now, there are still many many things I like about it. "Whose Line Is It Anyway" for example. Or the NBA. Or having the freedom to actually write about it with relatively little fear of getting sued. Or having the chance to interact with 3214392805 other races and cultures. I just wish that the administration would be less obnoxious and listen less to the neo-cons.

Interesting article about (North American) public opinion on the emergence of China on to the global scene.

I don't really know what to make of it. On the one hand, China does have a lousy human rights track record, is still quite corrupt and is basically an aristocracy (And we know how aristocracies turn out right? eg. French Revolution). However, it seems as if the situation over there is improving and perhaps the (North) Americans are worried about their own dominance on the global scene being threatened by the new kid on the block? Maybe after years of being the only superpower in the world, the States (okie, I can't really speak for Canada, cos I don't know nothing aboot it) is fretting that soon, when it says "Jump" people will not only NOT say "How high" but instead will say "What for?".

I'm definitely biased in this case. I hope that China cleans up its act (ideally within the next 10-20 years) and shows the world that Asians are more than pretty Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese school girls with weird fetishes.

Perhaps then, the Americans will realise the hubris they have had for the last 20 odd years or so and try to integrate into the global society instead of trying to play Punk'd with everybody else.

I do realise that this desire to see China emerge is fuelled in part by a desire to see the States taken down a notch or two. But I don't think it's malicious. It's more of a "just desserts" kind of feeling. I'm sure the people who heard me argue this out at Starbucks can vouch for me. (Right guys? *wink wink*)

Well, that's just how I feel personally. In any case, I think that China can't be stopped. It's really a rising dragon. So everyone will have to adapt to the new socio-economic landscape whether they like it or not.

Recently, me and a few friends were discussing about life in the States vs life back home. The conclusions are not up to me to say because I'm aware of the ISA and Guantanamo Bay and I'm deathly afraid of both. But let me present some thoughts about life in the States.

1. Religion is on the rise here. And by religion I mean Christianity and Catholicism (tricky spelling there). This resurgence of religious fervour is coupled with a thinner and thinner distinction between the Church and State. This can be seen by the openly pro-conservative stances the Bush administration takes on the right to die and abortion, the two issues the conservatives want to change right now.

This has caused some vague sense of uneasiness as the States is a big country, with about 300 million people (5th most populous nation in the world).

This was supposed to be some deep, thoughtful and analytical piece on the affect of the State on the Church and vice versa here. However, it's just too hard. Religion is such a touchy subject, discussing it(at my level) would be something I don't have the time and energy to see through. So I'll just leave it as: Religion - What's yours is yours and damned if you try to force it on your neighbour.

2. Is it just me? Or is there some kind of spam bot that randomly hits on your page from some other poor unsuspecting blogspot site? Please confirm for me peeps.

Wow. Just got back from the lab (on a Sunday no less). WOW! Nobody has zinged me about my pic yet. I'm amazed. It's benn about 24 hours already. And NOTHING. AM I THAT INSIGNIFICANT PEOPLE?? Diss me already!!

Here are the rants of a service sector worker. Awww. Poor thing. I would just like to say that while I'm sure some people act like that, some of the Indians I've met here are cool. Like Milkshake cool (I don't even know if he's paying attention). So I guess that there are all sorts of people for every race. Ah Seng just got unlucky.

People, especially those back home, cross your fingers for me as I try to figure a way to go back this August. I don't know how exactly, but I want to try. Cos I realise that if I don't go back now and do actually get a job here next year, winter(i.e Dec) will be my only chance to go home and see my family and friends. And you can NEVER have too much time to see family and friends. So dang it. I want to go back. (Actually, only those back home need to cross their fingers. I'm sure there are some peeps here that will be glad to see me go. PFFFTT to them)

Finally got my hair cut. It was getting way to messy up there to manage. Now it's a lot shorter and I don't need to dry my hair before I sleep.

Re-installed windows on my laptop. And it COMPLETELY screwed up my monitor settings. Now I have a black bar about 1 inch thick on the right side of my screen... Help anyone? Please?

My downstairs neighbour(s) should be in a strait jacket for his (their) own safety. (Okie, I'm gonna assume it's them to clear up the grammar.) They are shit-assed crazies. Banging on their ceiling (my floor) seems to be their favourite hobby and they will follow me around to do it too. And it's not even like I'm jumping up and down or blasting music at all. Although when I get DDR with Mario all bets are off.

But still, I'm trying not to derive pleasure from making them do that. Cos in order to change, I have to get over the fact that getting even makes me happy. I'm better than those aurally challenged people living below me. Haha, in fact, they ARE below me already. Har har. Props to Miss Sim for pointing out how I should treat people like these.

Finally can get my cooking up and running. With rice, life is good again. I can actually cook dishes and stuff and eat it with a staple. Ahh. =)

Went jogging yesterday. My first time this millennia. And I just got KILLED doing it... Restart from babysteps I guess. But at least I tried. Now the only thing to do is to keep the momentum rolling. Gotta keep my fingers crossed.

Was just reading about the NBA in general after seeing the Spurs lose. FINALLY the Suns were able to get a stop in the 4th quarter... I don't like the Suns, but I absolutely HATE the Spurs. Ever since they got Toni "I'm Spastic" Parker and Flopnobli. Flopnobli walks every single time he drives. He could walk to the convenience store around the corner and back and the refs won't call it. But I digress. The main thing I wanted to say is this. Mark Cuban may be way over the top, but I like this post. I'm sure everyone wants to hit their big one too. So here's to trying, rhymes with dying (quick, fantasy buffs, where did I plagiarise that quote from?).

1. I guess that modern art is not for me. Even if I tried, only maybe about 30% of all the stuff I saw in the Museum of Modern Art made sense. Perhaps people like Miss Huay and Miss Sim might beg to differ, but frankly, a line across a page art is not. (To me anyways)

2. I missed the Nintendo World opening!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. It was nice meeting up with friends and relatives that I haven't seen in awhile. It's always nice to see a friendly face in a sea of strangers.

4. Boston is very picturesque. It's not a big place, but it's pretty and still has a decent amount of activity. Not like some other university town I know of...

5. Chicago has GREAT pizza. It's near ESPN Zone and it's really really awesome. But it takes like 45 minutes to make, so better order early.

6. Hotel Wacker really is a BUDGET hotel. It's not expensive for it's location, but when they mean no frills, they mean no room service, no linen changing, stained carpets and the occasional cockroach. But it's only 2 blocks away from Michigan Ave (The Magnificent Mile).

7. Which leads to a lot of shopping. It's simply MIND-BOGGLING how much shopping people can do. On this trip, I learnt about brands of fashion that I never even knew existed. Quite informational, but the walking!! For the love of God, the walking!!

8. Lastly, if Gary reads this, Good Buy man.

Beware the 8th of June!! While I'd have to admit that it doesn't have the oomph of "Ides of March", "8th of June" is still a very very important date. It's the date of my FIRST EVER paycheck!!

Haha. It seems really weird that someone is so happy about paying potential taxes. But the thing is I might not even have to pay tax at all! (Considering the puny amount I'm paid, that might not be very surprising.)

But why fret over $$ when the sun is shining, the skies are blue and there is that tantalising smell of chemical solvents in the air? I'm gonna try to make better use of my time in summer to improve my languages and try to get in shape.

I don't know which one has a better shot.

At least I had the vacation to recharge. It was such a total drag near the end of last semester. Just didn't have the motivation to really really study. Guess I was just consistent enough throughout the semester to get along. Either that or I was lucky in the finals.

In the words of Henry V, "Once more into the breach". Hope you guys are having better holidays than me.

Just came back from my 10 day tour of NYC, Boston and Chicago. Still unpacking my place. Just taking an after-dinner break.

Some quick observations for now:

1. AMTRAK is like a cheap whore. It sucks a lot. I left Chicago at 8pm last night, but reached the Lafayette Station only at around 130am today. That's a FIVE AND A HALF HOUR journey. By comparision, flying from Chicago to Indianapolis is around 90 minutes, the Greyhound will take around 4 hours from Chicago to Lafayette. Gods...

2. Museums take FOREVER to tour. One a day is just about right. There is just too much stuff to see at a leisurely pace to rush through. (Even if you don't really understand half of the works displayed)

3. NYC rocks. Boston and Chicago were so tame in comparision. Almost boring.

4. It was great to see old friends again. Now that people are actually graduating, I might not have many chances to meet up with them again. (This will take up another post by itself)

5. I'm sad that my exchange friends have left for good.

6. I'm doing fine Mr Pimp. Thanks for asking. =) See you when you come back.

FINALLY Finished with all my papers. I still have to do some stuff later today but I can start packing and doing holiday planning already. NYC here I COME!!

Just finished revising my report for individual research. It's been ballooning like mad every since the first draft went for inspection. 30 pages, then 44 and now 52. Crazy. Just crazy. Still at least that's 1 thing done. I still have to pack my stuff and prepare for Friday's 2 exams. And finalise vacation plans. Busy busy busy. But for now, I'm taking a breather from all that. And it doesn't hurt to be sitting directly opposite a cute chick, who looks like an ABA studying something in SLA.

We were discussing the coupbility (KA-AH-PU-BE-LEE-TI), the ability to become a couple with someone else (hopefully of the opposite sex), of one of our dear CHEs. Apparently, some people have deemed his coupbility to be so lower, they are willing to sponsor a dinner for him with anyone that he manages to hook up with.

I guess that being single and being attached both have their pros and cons and they have been debated to the death by everyone with a sex drive on this planet. Still, the stereotyping in this case is quite apropro in my opinion. Being single, you have more time for yourself, more money to spend and more freedom to do what you want. You do lose out on affection, emotional support and (possibly) great sex. Being in a relationship requires commitment, understanding, patience and (preferably) a deep wallet. But the bond you forge with that special someone and the shared memories are reward enough.

Well, I've been rambling on and on without any real thing to say. I just wanted to sit here a little while longer (to check out the chick) before I start the walk home in the cold. Also, I just wanted to point out what some people think of that abovementioned CHE's *erm* mojo *erm*. Haha. Damn, the chick just left. Ok, there's no point in prolonging my stay here any longer. Homeward bound I am. (May 19TH!!!)

Just finished project in the lab. Everyone is asleep right now so I have no way to confirm if my answer is correct. (Did anyone get a linear Pressure Vs Catalyst Weight? Please leave a message in UPPERCASE if you did. Thanks.) So I has talk a bit about time and this semester while waiting for Mina to finish her project.

If there's one thing I learnt this semester, taking 18 credit hours (6 classes), is that there is ALWAYS time for something to be done. To be done well? Maybe not, but definitely enough time to do stuff. Like doing Texas Hold 'Em while waiting for my program to run or doing homework while my experiments are going on.

Still it's gonna take a minor miracle for me to do all my stuff next week. I have 3 finals and 1 report due by next Friday, then I have to pack, pay my bills and have a party in the weekend, then it's NYC on Monday. Hopefully, I'll just pull through.

Looking back at this semester, I can say that it truly has been pretty unique, harrowing and rewarding. I became a junior (haha... old already), had to do 20 hour weekends in the lab, gained insight on the research life and made many new friends.

It's a funny thing, but all my life, I think the best years of my life all were all the even years of my education.

Quite a stir over a scholars and their online voices recently. All I have to add is: Thank God I got out while I could. FINALLY finished with the GODDAMN statistics project. I am such a loser. The maximum allowable limit was 125 runs (or tries) but I took 146 runs to finish. Then again, the instructions were bad and there was a general sense of ~EVIL~ karma in the place. I hope something bad happens to the people who invent such torture to inflict on innocent students. Like suddenly becoming anal retentive or having monkeys coming out of their ears...

Well, I'm done with the project but I still have to do the report... Damn. I'm too tired to curse. ~Just insert your favourite image of me swearing here.~

So today was a far more relaxing day than the past few nightmarish ones and I ended up at Ah Seng's place playing a few games. Namely Star Wars Battle Front and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Both are really really awesome games. In fact, it was so fun, this was how we looked like.

That's it. Sean Howard is a coward. He's a coward who does not try to resolve problems in a gentlemanly manner. Instead he incites goons to do his thuggery for him.

If you had clicked on the link, you would have found a webcomic that (quite probably)had been repeatedly ripping off Sean's own webcomic without acknowledgement. It's understandable for Sean to get upset about this kind of piracy. However, a few days ago, he all but unleashed his ravenous fanboys on that site by saying that as long as that webcomic was standing, he would not update his own. And now, this is what has happened. Completely immature and probably completely illegal too. And the worst thing is that the owner of the webcomic is (by all accounts) still a teen who lives with his dad and brother.

Sean has shown no remorse about this incident and in fact, was very sanctimonious about this whole incident. He's a drama queen, a crybaby and a bully all rolled into one. And that's the last straw for me. Although he does do a good webcomic, I'm never patronising his website again. Such conduct is unbecoming of someone who wants to use his platform (webcomics) to feed his family.

Aftermath of my Stats exam.

Wow. I studied till 4am in the morning for this exam and I still have had only 3 hours of sleep since Sunday. So much effort, so little returns.

Luckily, I'm not the only one who feels this way. Not a single person was smiling when they left from the exam hall. So all I have to do is to do less bad than them. Which, considering that the majority are Ang Moh's shouldn't be too hard. (People who don't understand that terminology, please PM me if you want to know.)

Argh. I slacked too much over the weekend. Now I need to really really rush my stuff for the quiz tomorrow and the exam 2 days from now. I need to do this shit.

In happier news, we went to Mina's crib to hang out and eat Kim Bap tonight. It was a really kickass time. The food was good, so was the company and the entertainment was first class. Pics of what happened are up. Go check it out!!

I never really realised how crazy some people can get over webcomics. I'm a regular reader of webcomics since they're free and usually gag comics (which I prefer over action/drama comics).

I just went to the website of a semi-famous(or perhaps infamous) webcomic artiste and realised that he, in a fit of anger (and irrationality), basically threatened his readers to solve his own problems if they (the readers) wanted to see new comics on his website. His problem being mainly that there was another artiste that was using (so claimed the insane webcomic) his style and character base and who (the other artiste) refused to acknowledge his (the crazy dude) work and remove the "copied" comics. I can't properly describe this. It's too blown out of proportion. Just msg me if you are interested.

I was dumbstruck. It's one of the most insane things I've ever heard. How can an author/producer/artist hurt his own fan base by essentially forcing them to do his dirty bidding? If the crazy dude actually carries out his threat and stop updating (next comic is due Mon, 11th Apr), I would just hang around to watch the drama.

Like they say, "Truth is stranger than fiction". TNT ain't got SHIT on this one.

However, he might be schedule for a lobotomy or at the very least, a total attitude change. I guess it's just the evolution of television but damn, he was the insipiration of the legion of chocolate loving kiddies when I was growing up and it will be sad to see him change.

Just finished my Heat and Mass Transfer Exam. Whenever an academic subject is written with Uppercase First Letters, you know it means business. Unfortunately, in this case, Heat and Mass Transfer's business was to kick my ass from here to Kazakstan. With Gil Lee as the professor, I wonder why we even try sometimes...

Still, after the whole ordeal was over, the Gang (another Uppercase First Letter word), went to pizza hut to get some pizza buffet. While the buffet itself was unexciting and highly highly ordinary (save for the blueberry dessert thin crust super sweet pizza), we had lots of fun destressing and coming up with nicknames for our members.

In order to save the names for posterity, I shall post them now. In no particular order:

Because he's smooth with the girls and also because Carolyn can't stand milk.

Viewtiful!! 

WooTz! I just completed Viewtiful Joe 2. It is a mostest kickass awesomenessest game. Mainly it involves Joe & Sylvia running around and doing all sorts of amazingly fantastic stuff like "Slow" (aka Bullet Time), "Replay" (where you can see your own best moves again and again) and "Zoom" (who doesn't want a close up of their viewtiful faces?).

Really really awesome. If you have a PS2/Cube (my brethen!!) go and get it. Or at least rent the bloody thing already!!

And now you know what I did on Saturday.

Well, the chemE's are going to puff, smoke and drink again tonight I think. Cafe Hookah is a groovy place but it's not really my kind of music. And the owner is such a fucktard. (Interesting note: Blogspot does NOT have any language filter. Awesomeness)The last time we were there, when we were waiting for Randy and Doug, he asked us to leave the table because we weren't 'making him money by sitting there'. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT ATTITUDE!?! Fucking douche bag. I would hope that his place burns to the ground but then the other guys won't have anyplace to go on Friday nights.

Things that struck me today:

1. Mina's sister got most of the good genes. Not all, but most. Just like my brother. Ugh, elder siblings always get the shaft in the good looks department...

2. It takes an AMAZING amount of time to prepare stuff in the lab when the stupid pH meter shuts down periodically every 10 minutes or so... If I had the pH meter working properly or at least for 45 minute periods I would have check down my lab time by at least 1 hour. So irritating.

3. Somethings in life you just can't get and you just can't change. I just hope things will change but they probably never will.

4. I have NO CLASSES TOMORROW!!!! WooTZorz.

Illnois had the most awesome come back last night. With 4 minutes left in the game, they were down like 15 points or so but outscored Arizona the rest of the game to force a 80 all tie at the end of regulation. Can you imagine that? A 15 point comeback with FOUR minutes left in a game? On the college level?? WOW. Lucky or skill? Who knows? But the Ill seem to be blessed with drama and skillz and here's to hoping that they play all the way to their NCAA title.

Okie, after some help from Ah Seng, this webbie is up and about again with new options. So everything's cool and after almost a year of absence, Zueig is up and about and wants to spout stuff again.

Thoughts for today:
Mario Kart rocks!! It's like one of the most funnest (I know it's not a word) party games around. Anyone with a (game)Cube and friends should get it.

"Guess Who" is a pretty good movie. It was waaaay better than I expected. It really struck some chords inside me as I saw stuff that mirrored life. 2 Thumbs from me.

Everybody walking on campus has a stupid grin on their faces. Well either that they have the stupid grin, or my brain is warping my visual senses to think that everyone looks like me. Haha. Yeah, i was walking around campus smiling like i just had 29038402834 rounds with an oreo cheesecake from NYDC. And it was all because the weather was above zero today!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!

Above zero. I take this as a sign that SPRING is coming. That means no more -20 degree days, no more shivering while penguin flopping over the icy sheets that cover the pavement and no more acting like ninjas between buildings (flitting in the shadows and dressed in stylish black garments). Sooooo happy. I can probably ramble on and on about this fact that the weather is taking a turn for the better and that soon all the ice on the ground will melt. But i think that's at least another 2-3 weeks away. I've waited the whole winter (a chilling 3+ months and counting) i can wait a few more weeks.

Well that's my weather report for today. Going to pray for better weather later today when i visit Mr Zhou. Nights everybody.

Another long miss between updates. But i have something important to annouce today. I fried an egg with a rice cooker! Haha. Yeah. And fried chicken breast as well. With a rice cooker. I cannot stress that enough. Haha. There's such a sense of accomplishment. I think given enough time, i can be crowned the "King of Rice Cooker Cooking" haha. I should write a book man. I'm Gosu!! Woot woot.

Also, i can cook stew. Although it wasn't really stew more like really thick soup. But still i've started cooking stuff already. Alright. No more crappy fast food. Haha. Hahahahahahahahaha.

I played with snow for the first time since coming here yesterday. And while i couldn't really feel my fingers for the next 4 hours after that( mental note to self; wear gloves the next time you pack a snowball), it was fun. Although maybe the fun in running around like headless chickens that don't squawk and can throw snowballs was that it let us (me and my friends) destress after an exam, there was some kind of base pleasure in dumping ice cold snow (well duh) on your friend's head. Haha.
And what's better than dumping snow on someone else's head is to dump snow down someone else's shirt. HAHAHA. Of course, i did that only cos the agressor attacked without a valid reason other than "Your head looks better draped in white... and wet"

I really need to change my sleeping habits. Either that or i need to get one of those super pillows and beds that ensure a good night's sleep. And my fingers feel heavy.

But reading back on my past entries, i think that my blogs have lost some of their luster. The entries have just gone flat. They used to be funny. But now they're just there. Maybe that's cos i was really free when i first started this thing and could update almost daily. Now, sometimes it's degenerated into a hassle or Mr Proh "Crusty" Nehshyon comes and chat with me. And we are talking about extended conversations here. But I digress. Actually I just ramble. Cos there isn't really very much for me to write now. I'm just rambling to place my mind in with the pinky fluffy bunnies of places where nasty thoughts can't invade. So my fingers are kinda on auto-pilot. (it actually took me 7 tries to get "auto-pilot" spelt right. Damn.

Well, it's the 2nd last day of my visit to sunny California. It's much warmer than Indiana now. Which is a good thing, but as they say all good things must come to an end and i'm going back tomorrow. Back to frigid Indy... Brrrr...

Hey hey, guess what? It's a new post!!

After vanishing off the face of the Earth for the last two weeks or so, I finally have the inclination and time to update my blog. Yay. Ok ok, so the truth is, i'm just waiting for my laundry to dry and am just killing time. So sue me if i don't have really grand intentions.

Things that have happened since the last update.

We had a lot of fun in between. Like going for Karaoke, Mini-golf and eating lots of good food. Well, good is a relative to Indiana and means Chinese mainly.

I went to San Fran. Saw Rushing Hill, the most windy road in San Fran. Went to see a high school girl's basketball game with Gawee. Went to Fisherman's Wharf and met up with Iris. Went to the chocolate factory with the name i can't pronounce properly. Ate the chocolates. Grew fat(ter) mostly.

Jolly good fun all in all.

Oh yeah, and i sent out my holiday cards already. I can't call them Christmas cards anymore but happy Belated Christmas and a happy Pre-New Year New Year!! Cheers!!

I slept like 10 hours since friday to sunday afternoon. It was murder trying to study for the last few papers. But it's finally over and i got an A for my organic chemistry. The bane of my intellectual existence. And i actually got an A. Hahaha. Some one must like me after all.

Anyway, i'm in my aunt's place in Cupertino,California now. The weather(at 10-15 celsius) is positively balmy compared to the feels like -14 celsius i've been getting... So i'm not complaining. Plus it's a vacation so i can relax all the way. Now i'm waiting for my cuz to come so we can have some fun.

Probably going San Fran later this week. Chill guys.

Exams have officially started. I had 2 today, with another one of friday (philosophy) and the last on saturday morning (comp sci)... I just finished my chemistry exam. And (as alwasy) it didn't go very well i think. But then again, i've learnt to think pessimistic about chemistry. It certain helps in being realistic. Hahaha. I'm bushed. I'm going home to have dinner and sleep.

To all those who have already finished their exams, lucky guys/gals. To those who haven't, i finish on saturday and let's suffer together till then... Haha.

After being prompted, I have to write this entry. I apologise to my many (i hope) faithful readers about the state of my website. Having a keyboard that flips off more often than that dreaded lunar based biological cycle, it's kinda hard to get consistent work done on your background and html with Frontpage.

And Toshiba is not helping me. I called the service centre today (US) and was told to call back to Singapore to confirm the procedure for my international warranty. This is stupid. Isn't toshiba a MNC (multi-national corporation)? Aren't MNCs supposed to be global organisations? Why then is there is disjointed communication is policy between the United States arm and the Singapore arm? For heaven's sake, it's an INTERNATIONAL warranty. You would suppose that there would be some rules and policy that transcends the international barrers... But nuuuuuuuu. It's like the eye asking the brain to ask the legs to walk around the hole in the ground. Someone is probably gonna fall down. Ok so it's not the best analogy, but bear with me. I think you get the idea yeah?

Ok that has fulfiled my rant a day quota. To more shocking news. Today was the first day that the temperature fell to double digits below 0. This morning, to get to my 730am lab, i had to walk in -9 (-14 with windchill) weather. I don't need a fridge with this kind of weather...

I hate missing out on good deals. And i (might) have just missed out on one. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was going on amazon.com for around USD 25.99. For a new gamepak. An original gamepak. In the end, it was out of stock.

To put the deal in perspective, back home, such a game would have cost around SD 60 for a pirated copy and around SD 80 for the original. USD 26 is around SD 52. Even if you throw in the shipping charges, it won't exceed SD 65. Damn, slow fingers, i curse you all...

Now i'm considering to buy it from amazon.com and get a 20% discount of it's stated price of USD34.99. Let's see. 80% of 35 is around 29 dollars. Throw in the shipping and that's around 35 again... hmm... I'd better go and check if there's free shipping then. Brb.

I hate ENGR 106 practical exams. Well, technical since there's only one, it would be exam. But just in case i have to go through it again, i'm cursing in advance.

After the latest and (thankfully) final 106 exam, which was a practical, if one were to go around asking the student population who took it, you might form the opinion that either
A. MATLAB is a shit-ass program that sucks like a high powered vacuum or
B. every student is suddenly a programming idiot. or like a certain seafood inspired friend so succintly put it "dian4 nao3 bai2 chi1" (电脑白痴) <-- for those who can see.

And it's snowing here. It's been snowing really hard. Going to class this morning, i've already seen at least 1 person slip and fall... I was walking penguin style all the way to class to maximise the contact between the floor and my shoes.

Oh yeah, one last thing. I shot a pistol last weekend. Like CS... Haha. wOOTz. (haven't see that in awhile huh. Here's one more for you guys... wOOtz)

Snow. Mention that word to most people living in tropical countries and they will envision something fluffy, cooling and pretty. If you'd mentioned that word to me before thursday night this week, i would still be inclined to believe in that vision. Now, i just think that snow is something that makes the pavements really really wet and slippery and is a walking hazard...

Considering that frozen sidewalks aren't really fun to play with much less walk on, i hate snow.

Well, it's the end of the thanksgiving holidays. I have 3 exams next week and a project due. That sucks. And i'm gonna go back to study already. Just wanted to post to tell my readers that i didn't slip and die on thursday night on the dark ice patch in front of my hall. Nooo. I didn't slip and die. Well, i didn't die at any rate...

Back to the books then.

You know what? Scrap the japanese and chinese words. As you can see from the post below, that idea didn't turn out as good as i thought it would...

So i will now stick to using those characters only for MSN. It's quite stupid. I managed to place in to japanese 201 in my university, unfortunately, 201 doesn't start until next fall. So in the meantime, my japanese is left to rot... Well done. I'm considering taking a lower level course that is available, 102. But i'm wondering if that would be a waste of my time.

In happier news, remember the 3 exams in a day tuesday last week? I know that my post had a typo and it will be corrected. But aside from that point, the results of 2 of the 3 exams are out. Maths was good. Coms was GOOD. Philosophy is pending. At this rate, i will probably get it back only in 3 weeks after the thanksgiving break.

Ahh, the thanksgiving break has started for some people already. Some lucky souls (myself included) have ended school for the week already. And they are preparing to leave for more exotic parts of the country or continent. I know people who are going toronto, florida, california, michigan. Me? Moving on to weather, i thought that 6 under was bad. It's currently 9 under and it's only going to get worse. The weather report was wrong, there was snow today. And 1 pair of cargo pants aren't really going to keep you warm. It's great motivation for continuous motion though...

SIgh, i'm still stuck on my CS project. It's the last project of the year and it's the toughest... damn... Well, back to work. Or at least back to trying to work.

Haha, life is semi-good again. My laptop still can't work properly but the other major happening in my life has been resolved. And i think i am a bloodied male chicken... Ok you guys are correct. I will now proceed to ice my genitals and get over it.

In other news, this has been the longest day of my scholarly life. I had a 3 papers. Count them, philosophy @ 10am, maths @ 630pm and communications @ 9pm. I ate dinner at 11pm... Suffering from gastric now.

Time-zone difference is why i'm late. Haha.

Hmm... it's really windy today. And by windy, i don't mean the picturesque drive by the beach and cliffs windy. I mean the blow your umbrella inside out, upside down, potiential to form twisters kind of windy. And the weather report says that these winds can reach speeds of up to 45mph (that's about 70knh for the metrically inclined). That's crazy.

In fact, i had a test today and before that test, i was supposed to be studying. But i spent most of the time staring out the window and look at the wind blow leaves about and how people reacted when these mini-leafsters (leaf twisters) blew into them. Quite interesting. The winds were so strong that once the leaves were blown off the ground, some were lifted as high as the 11th storey.

Wow. Ok enough about winds. The Dinner and Dance was an unmitigated success. Well, ok, almost. If you discount the part when we cocked (screwed) up the exit of the Guest of Honour, it was pretty good. But again, one sad fact of Purdue was forced upon me; THERE ARE NO CHIO BU'S... Sigh....

Well, there's always hope for next year...

It's the final countdown... te ne ne ne, te ne ne ne neeeee...

This is it. In 5 hours time, the show will be on. We've worked sooo hard on this Dinner and Dance, i hope that it goes well.
I am reminded of the time that me, shiyao and cj performed that short skit, blue nose and red nose for all the little kids in sec 4... But this time, the crowd is bigger, more mature and there will be food for them to pelt us if they don't like the show...

Haha erratism strikes again. I've been busy studying for my tests-outs occuring this week, next week and next next week and i'm rushing for Dinner and Dance. Going for reheasal now in fact. But i thought that i've neglected you guys for long enough. My apologies. I just got my Haloween pics though. So you can look forward to seeing me look stupid soon.
